Hiroko Igeta is showing her Doll Exhibition at GalleryEs in Omotesando (opposite Las Chicas) until 2 February. Featuring mutated, anatomically disproportionate dolls and photographs thereof, a la Chapman Brothers, Cindy Sherman or Hans Bellmar, these exquisitely hand-crafted works are must-sees.

When I was visiting Johannesburg in August 2002, I was fortunate to pick up a copy of this stunning book by photographer, Craig Fraser. Shack Chic is a documentary of the homes of people living in Cape Town's shacklands, captured in natural light.
It is about the dignity to be found in the dusty streets of South Africa's shack-lands. While these people obviously don't take pleasure in the poverty they live in, they stand proud in the face of it.
